Ship 72 Skipper Dean Skiff says:

These periodic posts are made to keep Ship 72 members, parents, and interested folks informed as to our activities and our plans.

I welcome positive feedback.

Nauset Sea Scout Ship 72 and Explorer Club 72 enjoyed an informative tour of the Chatham Coast Guard Station Sunday, February 26. Click here (Refresh or Back to return)

We were disappointed not to have climbed the lighthouse but unfortunately that was beyond our control. We can go again when the floor is completed and there is always P-town where we have actually stayed overnight and gone out on their boats.

After the tour 28 people, made up of teens, parents, leaders and friends, held a Bridge of Honor at the Landship, located at 46 Beach Road in Orleans.

I would like to thank everyone for working together and making it a huge success. A special thanks to Elizabeth Lord for preparing the Landship and to Jennifer Connors for overseeing the food.

The ceremony recognized:
  • Bosun Seamus Murphy, Connor Mcleod and James Lord who were awarded the rank of Apprentice by Al Beal, Commodore of the Cape Cod Squadron.

  • First Mate Lee Johnson awarded James Lord a certificate for completing an 8 week Cape Cod Sail and Power Squadron SAFE BOATING COURSE.

  • An Eagle Knot, signifying the rank of Eagle was presented to Seamus Murphy by Skipper Dean Skiff.

  • Rich “Boo” Berube and Joseph “Lenny” Arsenault were given Certificates of Appreciation for being instrumental in rescuing the OL’ GAFFER, the Sea Scout’s Herreshoff American 18 ft. Catboat after she left her mooring during a howling Nor’easter.
Sea Scout Ship 72 welcomes aboard JOHN SHORTIS and BENJAMIN GIFFORD, two new members from Explorer Club 72.

The Sea Scouts and Explorers are planning a day trip to Mystic Seaport on March 18 where they will be taught Maritime skills by the Museum’s resident instructors. Any students interested in joining the Explorers (ages 11,12 &13) or the Sea Scouts (ages 14 -20 ) please go to…… seascoutship72org.

The Sea Scout meetings are now on THURSDAY nights at the Landship, 7:00 to 8:00 PM. Teens, parents and friends are invited.

Please see our website at sea scoutship72.org.

It was a pleasure seeing and meeting all of you and I look forward to working with you.
