These periodic posts are made to keep Ship 72 members, parents, and interested folks informed as to our activities and our plans.

I welcome positive feedback.

Ahoy All!

Our first joint Nauset Ship/Club 72 event, a boat maintenance work party on Saturday, May 8th, was a great success. It was very rewarding to see 14 students and 6 adults working together for the first time to prepare our fleet for an early launch date this year. There is still more work to do but we are well on our way.

The mast was rotated on the Luna's so that Mr. Lee can complete the challenging task of rewiring the sloop. The bottoms were painted on O'l Gaffer and Luna. Wood rails, hand rails, slats, doors and tillers were sanded and the first coat of varnish put on much of the wood work. Thirteen 12 ft. Surfboat oars were washed and renewed.

Three boats were moved to make the work easier and then put back the way we found them with no hardship to the environment or to Mr. Crawford's residence following the scout practice of replacing or leaving things the way we found them or "better" ..... and we still found time to devour 5 large pizzas.
Imagine that!

It was a great day and Mr. Jim, Capt. Ron, Adviser Katrina and myself enjoyed the interaction working with the crew and parents. Next on the schedule is a tour of Arey's Pond catboat building facilities and boat yard on Saturday, May 16th from 10:00 am to noon.

Thank you all for a super day,
